BioED, the CSR label for organic companies, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. In one decade, BioED has labelled the CSR approaches of 70 food industry companies and continues to make progress while broadening its scope of action to cosmetics companies and, very soon, specialised distribution.

Ten years ago, Synabio, the union for organic food companies, created this label so that its members could go beyond organic specifications by integrating sustainable development into the heart of their strategy and promote their best practice.

A decade of excellence and commitment

Since it was founded in 2014, BioED has labelled nearly 70 food companies, going beyond the expectations of organic specifications! And that’s not all: the label recently launched a new standard specific to cosmetics, in partnership with Cosmébio, to label companies active in the organic cosmetics sector. The Nature et Stratégie group was the first cosmetics company to receive the label in 2023.

It is now the turn of organic shops to commit to the approach: a partnership has been forged between SYNADIS BIO and SYNABIO to adapt the BioED to the specialist distribution network. The first test audits should take place in autumn 2024.

The entire organic sector will then be able to join the BioED community!

A poster campaign for a super label

For Sustainable Development Week (from 18 September to 8 October) and the 10th anniversary of the label, a poster campaign will be on display in Naturalia and La Vie Claire shops, two emblematic names in the organic sector. This campaign will show that, just like superheroes, the BioEd label works in the shadows, because it doesn’t appear on any products. Consumers are unaware of it, and yet it enables the companies involved to structure themselves and make lasting improvements.

On average, BioED companies:

  •   Recycle or recover 80% of their waste;
  •   Market 80% of packaging that is 100% recyclable;
  •   Have 47% of women in their management bodies.

These figures are encouraging and we can see that there is still room for improvement for these companies committed to an ongoing improvement approach!

Why do companies choose BioED over another label? BioED companies tells us!

“Today, BioBleud is growing fast and the team is expanding. At this stage in our history, we thought it was important to formalise our CSR policy and structure it around our roots in order to meet the expectations of our stakeholders. It’s a great way of ensuring that we don’t lose our soul along the way, transmitting and perpetuating our values and setting a coherent and innovative course for the company.

The BioED standard is well suited to the needs of our company in this area. It’s also an excellent tool for team building and ongoing improvement, a way of remaining a pioneer.” Emmanuelle Jungblut, co-director in charge of CSR

“Created nearly 25 years ago, Les Jardins de Gaïa is a company for which social, societal, environmental and economic commitment is essential. The introduction of an identified CSR approach will enable us to perpetuate the company within a structured medium and long-term framework in which the various CSR pillars are taken into account. We chose Bioentreprisedurable®, a clear standard that addresses our concerns because it is suitable for companies of our size and our sector of activity.” Arlette Rohmer, Founder and director of Les Jardins de Gaïa
