“Dual Fair Trade and Organic certification as a lever for the ecological transition of production and processing methods in West Africa: examples and testimonies from partner cooperatives of the Fair Trade Programme”.
With Mr. Pierre DUBUIT, in charge of the “Producers’ Organisation and Market” Programme for the NGO Agronomes et Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (AVSF), Mr. Fulbert DAGO, Deputy Head of the Sub-regional Equity Programme for AVSF, based in Abidjan (who will be at the show), Mr. Camille ABOU OI ABOU, President of the Mawoubé Agricultural Cooperative in Yèrèyrè in the Abengourou region of Côte d’Ivoire (who will be at the show).

After a contextual introduction to the growing trend towards dual certification for Organic Agriculture and Fair Trade, the concrete results achieved by AVSF’s West African partner cooperatives under the sub-regional Equity Programme will be presented under 4 headings:

– Protection and restoration of natural ecosystems (e.g. shea butter parks)
– Agro-ecological transition of cocoa-growing systems
– Transformation, energy efficiency and management of agri-food residues
– Socio-economic impact of certification

Finally, the testimony of a manager of an Ivorian cocoa cooperative certified as Fair Trade and AB will provide concrete examples and details of how AVSF’s support under the same programme has enabled an agro-ecological transition in cocoa-growing systems.

“Fair Trade to boost organic farming”, which will look at the positive dynamic of Fair Trade and how it complements organic farming, and will show that Fair Trade has a positive dynamic and complements organic farming.
